Shellia Eugene Spires, 94, of New Richmond, died Dec. 15 at Sunrise Manor in Amelia.

He retired from the operating engineers Ohio Local 18 in 1982. He served in the United States Army during World War II in Africa, Sicily, Italy and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a charter member of the VFW Richard Dryden Post 8287 in Manchester and a life member of the American Legion Post 550 in New Richmond.

Spires is survived by his wife Lena Marie (Poe) Spires, daughters Debbie (Darrell) Bowling and Shellia (Thomas) Grenwis, sons Donald (Carlotta) Spires, David Spires and Gary Spires, siblings Ruby Sargent, Ruth Shoemaker, Della Wolfe and Peggy DeVore, six grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents Alva Vincent and Edna Pearl (Tomlin).

Visitation from noon until 2 p.m. services Dec. 19 at Lafferty Funeral Home in West Union. Interment at Manchester Cemetery. Adams County Honor Guard to perform military services.
