The Milford High School girls water polo team wrapped up its 2014 season finishing fourth at the Ohio Water Polo State Championship which concluded on Saturday at Mason High School. After losing to eventual state champion Upper Arlington in the semifinals, the Eagles dropped a heartbreaking 11-9 overtime decision to Sycamore in the third-place game.

Following an opening match 17-7 win over Worthington on Friday night, the Eagles fell by a 17-8 score in the semifinal contest against Upper Arlington.

The third place contest saw Milford get on the board first on a Skyler Fontaine goal, but trailed 3-1 by the end of the first quarter. The Eagles had cut the deficit to 4-3 by halftime, but rallied to tie the score at five with 4:22 remaining in the third quarter. The stage was set for a dramatic finish as the scoreboard showed a seven-all tie after three periods. Milford had a chance to tie with 36 seconds remaining only to see a save by the Sycamore keeper. In the extra sessions, the Aviators were able to stretch their advantage to the final 11-9 score.

Upper Arlington went on to a 15-7 victory over Napoleon in the finals to claim its 14th state title and fifth in the last seven years.

Milford finishes the season with a final record of 23-10.
