The Clermont Chamber of Commerce has announced its positions on one local tax levy that will appear on the Nov. 4 ballot.

The position was determined after review of questionnaire responses, interviewing levy sponsors, and through discussion in the Government Affairs Council, with final action by the Chamber Board of Directors.

“For over 40 years the Clermont Chamber has focused on safeguarding and strengthening the collective interests of the Clermont County business community,” said Matt Van Sant, President/CEO of the Clermont Chamber of Commerce. “The action to support the Pierce Township public safety levy is a high priority at the Chamber in support of our mission to attract, retain, and grow successful companies.”

“Public safety remains a leading factor in company site selection decisions and a strong emergency response system is important to this objective. Companies locate where their employee and company assets are secure, and the Chamber is supportive of communities like Pierce Township that deliver efficient and effective fire and EMS services.”

Citing tax base erosion, rising operational costs, fiscal discipline, community engagement, and that no levy has been added in approximately ten years, this is the position:

• Endorse Pierce Township Fire & EMS – Additional Tax Levy (2.8 mills) for a continuing period of time. This is an increase of $98 per $100,000 of home value. The Chamber recommends a “yes” vote because the safety of the people living and working in the Pierce Township is absolutely necessary if we are to successfully attract, retain and grow a strong business community.
