Lawrence
For the second consecutive week and the third time during the 2014 season, a UC Clermont volleyball player has received a national award. Amber Lawrence, a sophomore middle hitter from Felicity-Franklin High School, has been named the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Volleyball Player of the Week.

Lawrence received this honor for her outstanding performance last week in games against Miami-Middletown and Berea College. She registered 28 kills, five blocks and eight service aces to help the Cougar cause. Lawrence has been in the top ten in USCAA national hitting percentage statistics most of the season.

Lawrence received this award the week after Alex Robb received her second USCAA Setter of the Week honor of the season.

The UC Clermont team topped off a great week of games leading into Bid Day for the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) national tournament. Clermont scored a pair of impressive wins to make their case.

On Tuesday, the Cougars hosted NCAA Division II program Central State with substantial USCAA power rating points at stake.

The Cougars and Marauders battled hard early in set one before Clermont pulled away for a 25-16 win. Clermont then carried the momentum through sets two and three to complete the sweep. A .464 team hitting percentage and 11 service aces propelled the home side to their victory.

Next up was a Friday night re-match with Sinclair Community College. The Tartans beat Clermont in an exciting September contest in four tight sets- with two of those sets going extra points.

The Cougars established early control in this game. Effective hitting and good defense helped the Cougars maintain leads in sets one and two – prevailing 25-19, 25-20. Sinclair, however, was not going down without a fight. They held off a late Clermont rally in set three to win 25-23.
