Morgan Gregston and Haley Kilgore were honored as the September Students of the Month by the Batavia Rotary Club. Both students exuded exemplary academic ambitions and service to their community which aligned with the Rotary motto “Service Above Self.”

Kilgore is a senior at Batavia High School (BHS). She has been on the honor roll each year throughout high school, played basketball, and volunteers as a trainer at school for younger students. Her ability to remove herself from the “drama” of high school life that periodically follows teenagers around has helped her become a valued leader among the student body. Kilgore has put others before herself in all aspects of her career as a student.

“We all hear bad stuff about teenagers,” said Batavia Superintendent Barbara Bradley. “I have known Haley for nine years; she is the epitome of what good character is.”

After graduation, Kilgore plans to major in forensic science at Bowling Green State University or Marshall University. She aspires to work at the federal or state level after receiving her degree.

Gregston is a senior at Clermont Northeastern High School (CNE). She has been in marching band for five years. During the 2013-14 school year, she demonstrated superior musicianship as a featured trumpet soloist with the jazz band. She volunteered to learn the tenor saxophone during the concert band season, so she could fill in where needed. During this school year, Gregson is a dance commander and has taken the time to assist younger members of the band with their musical experience. Additionally, she has been a member of the Leo Club for four years, is a member of the National Honor Society, a school newspaper staff member, and volunteers during the summer at the Cincinnati Zoo.

“Morgan is always smiling and in a good mood,” said Misty Goetz, High School Principal at CNE. “She works diligently on all of her school work and is an extremely thoughtful, kind person.”

Gregston has been accepted to Bowling Green State University and will study aviation technology.

The Batavia Rotary Club recognizes one high school student from BHS and CNE each month throughout the regular school year. Students are nominated for this award for their school work and service to their community in keeping with the Rotary motto, “Service Above Self.”

Batavia Rotary meetings are held weekly on Tuesdays at 7:00 a.m. at the Hawk Building on Taylor Road, Clermont County Airport. Prospective new members and visiting Rotarians are always welcome.
