On June 21 and 22, 20 teams made up of cancer survivors, caregivers, family members, local faith-based groups, and businesses camped out overnight at Union Township’s Veterans Memorial Park. They walked 18 hours in the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Clermont County, raising $40,495 in the fight against cancer. The volunteers surpassed their original goals of 15 teams and $32,000.

Relay For Life is a community-based, volunteer-driven event that honors survivors and caregivers, remembers those lost to the disease, and fights for a world with more birthdays,” said Maureen Bedell, Specialist, ACS Relay For Life.

“On behalf of the American Cancer Society, I want to say a special thank you to all of our volunteers, participants, and sponsors who helped make this event such an incredible success,” said Bedell. “The funds raised at Relay bring us one step closer to reaching our goal of finishing the fight against cancer by helping people get well and stay well by finding cures and fighting back.”

The event features music, family activities and a moving Luminaria Ceremony during the evening.

Plans for the 2015 Relay For Life of Clermont County are already being developed. The event will take place on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Veterans Memorial Park.
