Students at Batavia Local School District are participating in the Celebrate My Drive campaign again this year in hopes of raising awareness about safe driving.

Celebrate My Drive is a campaign through State Farm which, according to the company, was created to share the belief that safe driving is a lifelong commitment, and to give communities a chance to rally around young drivers and encourage them to make safe choices.

“We have the ability to raise awareness for save driving,” T.J. Cannon, president of the Batavia Business Professionals of America chapter, told board of education members during the Sept. 15 board meeting.

Last year the district was awarded $25,000 in grant money for their efforts to raise awareness, and BPA members are hoping to be successful again this year.

“The top five can get $100,000 and the top two can get a concert featuring The Band Perry,” Natasha Camacho, secretary of the BPA chapter, said.

The campaign encourages students and adults in their community to make a pledge between Oct. 15 and Oct. 24 to drive safely, including having two hands on the wheel and two eyes on the road.

Taylor Murphy, fundraising coordinator for BPA, said members are organizing a tailgate this year to encourage students and adults to participate in Celebrate My Drive and to raise awareness about safe driving.

She said the tailgate will include a photo booth, games, prizes, face painting, food, and a spirit contest.

Camacho said last year the district used the grant money they won from Celebrate My Drive to help fund After Prom, educational trips for students, and more.
