Louis H. Moore, 84, of Batavia, passed away Sept. 14.

Moore, a pillar of the local community, was a lifelong resident of Batavia and a fifth-generation funeral director and embalmer at the family business, Moore Family Funeral Homes.

But Moore’s accomplishments went far beyond being a successful local businessman.

According to Moore’s son, Louis Moore II, his father was devoted to his family, his business, and his community.

“Dad worked hard to take care of his family, he was very involved in politics, and he was loyal to the community,” Moore said.

Louis Moore was a member of the village council in Batavia for eight years, and he served as a Batavia Township trustee for 36 years. As a Clermont County Park Board commissioner, he was instrumental in coordinating the first donation of land which began the Clermont County Park District.

Moore was a volunteer fireman, a Clermont County Republican Committeeman, and he served with the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office in providing property appraisals.

Moore was a member of the Batavia Masonic Lodge Number 104 F&AM, the Ancient Order of Scottish Rite, and the Syrian Shrine. He was also a member of the Batavia Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Union Township Kiwanis Club.

Moore served in the US Navy Reserves and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

In 2012, Moore received the Salute to Leaders Award from the Batavia Township Board of Trustees. He was a Kentucky Admiral and Kentucky Colonel, and received an award for more than 44 years of public service in local politics.

Governor James Rhodes appointed Moore to the Ohio Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers, on which he served two terms as a board member and president.

Moore’s son said that his father helped to pass legislation that was important for the industry and for the public.

“He helped pass basic legislation, such as requirements for screens on windows and hot and cold running water for embalming rooms,” he said.

Moore was a graduate of the Batavia school district, and he attended Miami University of Ohio and graduated from the Cincinnati College of mortuary science.

Moore was preceded in death by his mother and father, William Stirling and Emily Clara (Henrich) Moore; his wife Mary Carolyn (nee Nordloh) Moore.

Survivors include his brothers Stirling (the late Barbara) and Bill (Wanda) Moore; his children Louis H. Moore II, Emily C. (David) Brown, Mark A. (Sharon) Moore, and Mary M. (Scott) Runck; grandchildren Elizabeth Moore, Louis H. Moore III, Abby Brown, Carolyn Brown, Zachary Moore, Logan Moore, Zoe Moore-Runck, and Koren Moore-Runck.

Services for Moore were held Sept. 20 at the First Presbyterian Church of Batavia. Interment was at Batavia Union Cemetery.
