The village of Amelia hired new police officers and swore the officers in during the Sept. 9 council meeting.

Charles Saylor was hired as a part-time police officer and Kevin Barkley was promoted to a full-time officer.

“We’re very excited to have these gentlemen,” Amelia Mayor Todd Hart said.

Saylor said he is excited to begin his duties as a police officer in the village where he lives.

Barkley was a part-time officer at the village.

“I’m excited to get out and do a lot more in the community and be more involved,” Barkley said about becoming a full-time officer.

The village has been working to replace part-time and full-time officers who have left the past few months.

Hart said currently the village has five full-time officers, including Police Chief David Friend, and three part-time officers.

He said Friend is still looking to hire additional part-time officers and is in the interview process now.
