Batavia Local School District students went back to school last week, and according to Interim Superintendent Barbara Bradley, everyone is ready to have a great year.

“It was an awesome first start, everything went smooth, the busses were great, the kids were great,” Bradley said.

Bradley said the major changes that went into effect this year were to the administration at the district.

Bradley began the new school year as interim superintendent to replace former superintendent Jill Grubb who retired in July.

She said high school principal Jamie Corrill was moved to assistant superintendent and high school assistant principal Camey Eberhard became principal.

Bradley said assistant middle school principal T.J. Glassmeyer became assistant principal at the high school.

She said Susan Hakel remains middle school principal and elementary school teacher Elizabeth Wainscott joined the middle school as assistant principal.

Administration at the elementary school remains the same with Renee Munro as principal and Molly Cribbet as assistant principal.

Bradley said all of the administrators are excited about the new school year.

“We have a new set of administrators who have decided that we are going to be the most outstanding district around,” Bradley said.

Bradley said they also hired 12 teachers to begin the new year.

“They are taking the place of people who retired and left the system,” Bradley said.

Jake Knapp, director of transportation for the district, said the first week of school went well, with few changes to the routes.

“We just had minor changes relative to kids moving in and out,” Knapp said about the routes. “There were no major changes in the routes.”

He said they are working to keep operations safe and efficient this year.

The district also introduced a revamped website, www.bataviaschools.org, this summer.
