Roland Franke, 72, of Hamersville, was injured Tuesday, Aug. 19 when the private plane he was operating crashed in Tate Township.

The plane, a 2007 Sky Raider, is an experimental, home-built single occupant plane.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Franke had just taken off from a field on his property in the area of Oak Corner Road when he experienced engine trouble. He crashed while attempting to return to the field to make an emergency landing.

The Patrol was notified of the crash just after 5 p.m.

Franke was transported from the scene by UC Air Care to University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Federal Aviation Administration was notified and a representative responded to the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
