Phillip Hamm pleaded guilty Aug. 14 to a charge of aggravated murder in the death of his roommate. With the plea, two additional charges for murder and rape were dropped.

In a call to 911 on Feb. 15, Hamm admitted to choking Meagan Fambry, 20, after an argument at their apartment on Old Savannah Drive in Union Township.

Clermont County Common Pleas Court Judge Victor Haddad sentenced Hamm to life in prison with the possibility of parole after he has served 25 years.

The sentence was handed down after Judge Haddad heard from Fambry’s parents, brother, and an aunt.

County prosecutor Vince Faris said that as part of the sentence Hamm could have been eligible for parole after 20, 25, or 30 years. He said that the family wanted to see him eligible for parole after 25 years.

“Any time we have a case like this we’re going to consult the family,” Faris said. “The mother and father both expressed their relief that they didn’t have to go through a trial.”
