George Raymond “Red” Simpson, 85, of Mt. Orab, died Aug. 6 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown.

Simpson was born July 30, 1929 in Lexington, Ky. He was a 1948 graduate of New Haven High School in Verona, Ky., a United States Air Force Korean War veteran, and owned and operated barber shops in Mt. Orab, Mariemont and Williamsburg until 1976. He was maintenance supervisor at U.S. Grant Vocational School in Bethel and retired in 1993.

Simpson is survived by his wife of 59 years Nancy, children Kathy Meeker, Bob (Karin) Simpson, and Kelly Simpson, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, brothers Jack, Joseph, Edward and John Simpson and sister Edith Hilbert and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Lola Simpson, brothers Maynard and Howard Simpson and sisters Mereada Simpson and Mary Proud.

Visitation 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. services Aug. 9 at Williamsburg United Methodist Church. Bob Parr and Vernon Green will officiate. Interment at Mt. Orab Cemetery. Memorials to the Ohio Veterans Home, 2003 Veteran Blvd., Georgetown, OH 45121, or Stein Hospice, 11 Liming Farm Rd., Mt. Orab, OH 45154.
