Clermont County Commissioners approved agreements with various townships and villages and the city of Milford for the 2014 road resurfacing program during their July 30 meeting.

Jeremy Evans, with the Clermont County Engineers Office, presented the list of participating townships and villages as well as the roads that will be repaved in each area during the meeting.

Evans said the agreements for repaving include the city of Milford; Batavia, Miami, Ohio, Pierce, and Union townships; and the villages of Amelia, Owensville, New Richmond, and Williamsburg.

Estimated costs per municipality ranged from around $14,000 for the village of Owensville to around $1 million for Miami Township.

The road resurfacing program has been an option for local governments to work with the county for road paving for several years, according to Doug Royer, deputy engineer for Clermont County.

Royer said they have had the most participation the past three years of the program. He said the townships and villages get a lot better of a price on paving than they normally would when they work together with the county.

Village and township officials have also been pleased with the results.

“We feel we get a better price by going together with other municipalities,” Kenneth Embry, service director for Batavia Township, said about the program before trustees decided on roads for 2014.

Amelia Mayor Todd Hart said the village first participated in the program in 2013, and that went well so they decided to participate again in 2014.

“It’s good to see the list continue to grow,” Clermont County Commissioner David Uible said about townships and villages participating in the program this year.

Commissioner Ed Humphrey said he feels the program is a great collaboration.

“It’s good to see a combined effort to save money,” Humphrey said.

Royer said bidding for the 2014 road resurfacing program will begin Aug. 7 and they will open bids Aug. 21.

He said they plan to begin the project by the end of September and expect it to be complete by the end of November.
