Carmela “Carme” Christin, 80, died July 29.

Christin was a veteran teacher of 35 years in the Forest Hills School District. After retirement she was known as “The Reading Lady” where she donated her time to read to young children and was the benefactor of hundreds of library books to local elementary schools. She touched many lives.

She is survived by her children Beth, Gigi, Susan (Bill), Amy (Jeff), Katie, and Tina (John), grandchildren Justyn, PJ, Sarah, Ally, Kaelie, Jonathan, Emily, Quentin, Christin, Nick and Megan, great-grandchildren Rylee, Antoinette and Ozwald, siblings Father Tony, Nina, Peter and Jeannine.

Visitation 4-8 p.m. Aug. 6 at E.C. Nurre Funeral Home in Amelia. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Aug. 7 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. A celebration of Carme’s life as a teacher will be held by the family for former students, co-workers and friends at Veterans Park from noon until 4 p.m. Aug. 9. Memorials to the American Diabetic Association or St. Jude’s Hospital.
