Milford City Council approved an agreement with a business that will be moving into the city during their July 1 meeting.

Lisa Evans, councilwoman and member of the administrative services committee, said they worked with Motor Systems Inc. and Scanner Applications on an agreement that would promote job creation in the city.

Evans said Motor Systems Inc., agreed to a 10-year commitment in the city and in return the city would rebate 50 percent of payroll taxes the first year, 30 percent the second year, and 20 percent the third, fourth and fifth years.

City Manager Jeff Wright said the two companies, Motor Systems and Scanner Applications, are interested in buying a building at 400 Milford Parkway for their operations.

“Motor Systems is moving in from Miami Township,” Wright said. “Scanner Applications is existing.”

Wright said Motor Systems would bring approximately 45 employees and a $2.7 million payroll into the city, which would make it the 11th largest company in the city. Wright said Scanner Applications is currently the 7th largest company in the city in terms of payroll, with around 50 employees.

Wright said the city has agreed to give the companies five years of partial grants, but in turn, they have agreed to stay in the city for 10 years and are also planning to purchase a building in the city. He said bringing the new company in the city will be beneficial, but also retaining Scanner Applications and making sure the company doesn’t leave the city is also beneficial.

“Retaining those 50 jobs and income taxes we collect from Scanner Applications is important,” Wright said.
