The Greater Milford Area Historical Society and Miami Township are working collaboratively to bring Shakespeare in the Park to Milford and Miami Township.

Through this joint initiative, ArtsWave will present “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” performed by the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company and sponsored by The Jacob G. Schmidlapp Trusts, Fifth Third Bank, Trustee. The event, free and open to the public, will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, at the Miami Township Community Park, 5951 Buckwheat Road, Milford, Ohio 45150.

GMAHS and Miami Township are also working together to feature a variety of pre-show fun activities starting at 5:30 p.m. that will delight folks of all ages including:

• Cast members from the Milford Theatre Guilde will perform an excerpt from its summer youth show, “Alice’s Virtual Adventure in Wonderland.”

• Students from Milford’s Pattison Elementary School will excite visitors with their juggling expertise.

• A period-costumed juggler and a magician will be on hand to introduce a jovial spirit into the evening.

• Children will take delight in a bubble-wand station where even the smallest participants can fill the air with giant bubbles.

“We are very appreciative of ArtsWave’s support in bringing this free community event to our area,” commented Donna Amann, administrator, Greater Milford Area Historical Society. “Shakespeare is a well-known historical figure, and the Society enjoys making history relevant through all types of scenarios.”

Since 2006, Cincinnati Shakespeare has traveled to parks and communities all over the tri-state presenting full-length Shakespeare productions. “It’s definitely exciting that Milford was added to the schedule this year,” continued Amann.

“As with all our outdoor performances, we hope the public will come early and enjoy the amenities of the Community Park,” commented Larry Fronk, administrator, Miami Township. “The 17-acre grounds offer a playground, tennis courts, walking trails, a sand volleyball court and plenty of space to spread a blanket and enjoy a picnic. We are very excited about bringing the Shakespeare experience to our community and providing a family experience to share.”

Visitors should plan to bring folding chairs or a lawn blanket. There is no seating at the Community Park Performance Pavilion.
