The 70th anniversary of D-Day just passed and if received almost as much attention in 2014 as it did in 1944. People are keenly interested in WWII and TV is filled with programming focused on those days and the experiences of those who lived through it.

At the Milford Public Library it is no different – except that the focus is on the books rather than on other media. The library recently received a gift of a collection of books concerning not only WWII, but the Civil War as well, and some other war/science topics on top. There are more than 400 volumes of this material, and all of it is in what collectors describe as “good or better condition.” Most are hardback books, but there is a special collection of WWII paperbacks published by Ballantine Books in the late 1960s that were written by a who’s who of Military Historians of the late 60’s and early 70’s. They are rich in photographic documentation.

There are 58 separate titles, all in good condition or better (doubles of 3 titles), for sale. Prices range from $2.50 to $20 according to Amazon and/or Ebay; some titles are rare, others common and of less interest.

These books will be on sale on July 25, 26 & 28, at 19 Water Street in Milford. The rarest of these volumes will be sold via silent auction. The books will be available for preview on July 16, 17 during regular library hours. Sale hours will be from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. Terms are cash or check only. Parking is available behind the library.
