Another annexation may be in Batavia’s future.

Village administrator Dennis Nichols has been working for some time on an annexation of more than 200 acres of property between Herold and Bauer roads. He says that he expects for progress on the annexation to be made soon.

“I hope to get the petition signed within the next week or two,” Nichols said.

The majority of the property included in the proposed annexation, 147 acres, is owned by the developer Hal Homes.

Nichols said that the developer wants to build 300 units of multifamily homes and 169 single-family homes on the property, and needs financing for infrastructure improvements on the property.

Nichols said that the developer is interested in having the property annexed because village has the ability to issue assessment bonds, which could provide the financing necessary for building roads, sewers and a lift station. The property owner would pay the full cost of any assessment bonds issued.

Nichols said that the annexation will likely be a lengthy process, which will not be completed until next year.
