Earl B. Berger, 90, of Fayetteville, died May 28.

Berger was the former mayor of Fayetteville for 19 years, the secretary of the Southwest Ohio Firefighters Association. He represented the village of Fayetteville in 1957 as a Goodwill Ambassador to the Republic of France during the LaFayette Bicentennial in Paris, France. In 1962, he acquired the first federal grant to establish the Village of Fayetteville Water Works. He helped organize the Ohio Valley Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association. Berger was an avid deer and turkey hunter. He was Brown County Commissioner from 1980 until retirement in 1997. He served on the Brown County Hospital Board for several years, volunteered at the United Way and was a lifelong member of St. Angela Merici Parish, St. Patrick Chapel.

Berger is survived by his step-daughter Doris L. (Floyd) Brate, step-grandchildren Amy (Fred) Brate-Tipton, Michael (Tracy) Brate, Candi Thorton, Jennifer McCoppin, Jason McCoppin and Christopher McCoppin, eight step-great-grandchildren, siblings Lucille Glenn, Kenneth Berger, Regina Catron and Agnes Houk and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Clara Berger, parents Matthew and Louese Berger, son Earl Berger Jr., step-son Harry Donald McCoppin and siblings Evelyn Molinari, Gertrude Vilvens and Bernice Vilvens, Lawrence, Matthew Jr., Andrew, George and William Berger.

Visitation 5-7 p..m. June 1 at Megie Funeral Home in Mt. Orab. Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. June 2 at St. Angela Merici Parish, St. Patrick Chapel. Interment St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorials to St. Angela Merici Parish.
