Frederick Franz, 74

Frederick “Butch” Franz, 74, of Owenton, Ky., died May 17.

Franz was born in New Richmond in 1939 and is formerly of Amelia. He graduated from Amelia High School in 1957 and served six years in the National Guard. He was honorably discharged in 1967. He retired from Cincinnati Milacron after more than 25 years as a machinist and expert lathe operator in the Oakley, Afton and Mt. Orab locations.

He is survived by his son Jason Franz, daughter-in-law Brigid O’Kane and granddaughter Alexandra Franz.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edith Neal and Fred Franz Sr., sisters Meme Lowery and Fern Abbot.

Services were held May 22 at Gwen Mooney Funeral Home. Interment at Spring Grove Cemetery. Military services provided out of respect for his service to our country.

    Father of my flesh, brother of my soul, paver of my path, rest well. May your spirit ever dance on the water and trees you would not leave, your faithful companion by your side once more.

    And then may it flow into the River.

    Your overall pattern persists, I know. And you would say “I am with Dixie and she is everywhere.” Now my task is to feel it, and see you there, and smile my love.

    You were my fortress forty-seven years, strong and sure. Now, me and mine will carry what’s left from here.

    Goodbye Dad. And… hello.

    I will miss you until my own end of days.
