Thirty-four members of the class of 2014 from Bethel-Tate High School have received the High Schools That Work (HSTW) Award of Educational Achievement.

The Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) gives this award to high school seniors who have completed a challenging program of study and demonstrated readiness for employment and for college.

Award recipients are Kyle Bastin, Timothy Boyd, Joshua Bradford, Doug Buell, Mariah Canter, Adam Clements, Alex Combs, Zach Conrad, Shelby Hall, Blace haviland, Jared Iding, Erin Jacobs, Dustin Kisner, Christina Ludwick, Noah Marcum, Phillip Miracle, Christine Myers, Alex Oetzel, Miranda Poklar, Samuel Price, Abigail Ratcliff, Caitlin Rettig, Alex Sandlin, Spencer Sharp, Cole Shepherd, Abby Shinkle, Kaitlyn Shouse, Lindsey Smith, Kenneth Sons, Sarah Sutherland, Juliann Trester, Anna Weigand, Nathaniel Willis.

The awards were presented by Mrs. Arn and Mrs. Kunz at the end of the year Awards Ceremony, May 13.

“Each year Bethel-Tate High School students perform well on the HSTW testing. It shows how dedicated our entire staff is to the education of our students and how hard our students really work,” said Mrs. Arn, Principal. “They have taken challenging courses in high school and scored high on rigorous exams, and by doing so, they have increased their likelihood of success in the workplace and further education.”

Students qualify for the award by completing a college-preparatory course of study in at least two of three subject areas (English/language arts, mathematics or science); completing a concentration in a career-technical area, mathematics/science or the humanities; and meeting readiness goals in all three subject areas (reading, mathematics and science) of the HSTW Assessment.

The Southern Regional Education Board is a multi-state compact for education, founded in 1948.

High Schools That Work, launched in 1987, is the largest high school improvement effort in the United States, with more than 1,100 school sites in 30 states and the District of Columbia.
