Officials with McDonald’s USA are planning to build a new restaurant in Union Township.

Township trustees approved the company’s outlot development proposal during their April 10 meeting.

Union Township Zoning Administrator Cory Wright said owners are planning to build the new restaurant on an outlot within Eastgate Marketplace in the township.

He said Eastgate Marketplace is the future development area where Garden Ridge and Golf Galaxy used to be, and the outlot is located in close proximity to the new exit ramp in that area.

Etta Reed, vice president of transportation engineering with Bayer Becker, represented McDonald’s USA at the public hearing and

“We did the engineering and landscape architecture,” Reed said about the project.

Reed said restaurant owners would be relocating the restaurant in the area. The current restaurant in Eastgate is located at 876 Eastgate Square Drive.

Reed presented renderings of the proposed building on the site.

“This is a final approval to proceed in that regard,” Wright said about the plans.

Trustees approved the development proposal during their meeting.

“This is great for the area,” Trustee Lloyd Acres said about the new restaurant. “It is a very nice design.”

Trustee Matthew Beamer said they appreciate McDonald’s being a part of the community.

Wright said he is not positive that McDonald’s will close their existing location, but that is the plan right now.
