The Greater Milford Area Historical Society will conduct a tour of historic Union Cemetery at Branch-Hill Guinea Pike and Weber Road in Miami Township. The tour will be from 6 – 7 p.m. Monday, April 28. The cost is $5 per person and registration is required. Contact the Miami Township Recreation Department at (513) 248-3727 to register.

Union Cemetery is located in Mt. Repose, one of the oldest parts of Miami Township having first been settled circa 1797. This cemetery served the Mt Repose area from 1823 until 1882 and once again in 1970 when Benjamin Collins and Sarah Collins Smith (Benjamin’s first wife) were moved here in 1970. Also among those buried in this location are Daniel Barber, a War of 1812 Veteran and John McMains, one of Miami Township’s earliest settlers.

Also of note is that of the relatively small number of monuments located at this site, three are known to have established Cincinnati stone cutter/monument maker signatures.
