David J. O’Toole, 69, of Amelia, died March 8.

He grew up in Mt. Lookout and was a 1962 graduate of St. Xavier High School, a 1966 graduate of Xavier University, and a devoted educator at Amelia High School for 33 years.

He began his career as an English teacher and later became assistant principal. He went above and beyond in the role of respected administrator. His commitment to his students was demonstrated by his attendance at all school functions and important family events.

After retiring as administrator, he became supervisor of data operations for West Clermont School District. Later he was an instructor at Great Oaks in the Gateway to Success Program.

He was an active member of the community and held numerous board positions including CORVA, Clermont Community Chest and Clermont Crew. He also worked to establish the Fallen Heroes Memorial and the Matt Maupin Pavillion at East Fork Lake.

He was devoted to St. Xavier High School, a passionate member of the Healy Society alumni who supported St. Xavier diversity and inclusion initiatives, and the recipient of the 2014 St. Xavier Magis Award.

He gave everything he had for the benefit of others. He was an exceptional role model and truly a ‘Man for Others.’

O’Toole is survived by his siblings John (Ann Livingston), Jim, Peter (Mary) O’Toole, Martha (William) Magnan, and nieces and nephews Amy and Lauren O’Toole, Ann Magnan, Peter Magnan, Joseph, Brian and Mary Ellen O’Toole, great-niece Sabine O’Toole and nephew Brenden Holland.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Ellen O’Toole.
