Greg Simpson, secretary of the Clermont County Agricultural Society, has been appointed to the Ohio Expositions Commission. Simpson is the first Clermont Countian to serve as Ohio State Fair Commissioner, and is one of only two commissioners from southern Ohio currently serving on the commission.
There are 13 members on the commission, which oversees 162 shows per year, including the Ohio State Fair.
“I’m not only honored, but I’m pretty humbled by the whole thing,” Simpson said. “No one has ever been selected from Clermont County.”
As an Ohio State Fair Commissioner, Simpson is required to attend one meeting per month and spend the 10 days of the Ohio State Fair on the state fairgrounds in Columbus.
He said that the Ohio Expositions Commission has a staff of about 57 people, and is responsible for the 360-acre fairgrounds in Columbus.
According to Simpson, the Clermont County Fair draws between 85,000 to 100,000 attendees, and the Ohio State Fair draws nearly 1.5 million attendees each year.
He says that in his new position he will be making a lot of connections that he hopes to be able to use to benefit Clermont County.
“I’m pushing to get shows in the Clermont County area,” Simpson said. “This would be a benefit not only to the people who show, but to the economy of Clermont County in general.”
