Joseph Howard Brooks, 85, died Sept. 13.

Brooks was born in Jewitt, Ohio. He graduated from Carrollton High School and attended Ohio State University. He was a member of the Alpha Gamma Sigma fraternity and received a degree in agricultural engineering.

Brooks served as a second lieutenant in the United States Army during the Korean War and was later employed in a variety of agricultural management companies. He founded his own business “Grass Roots.”

He met and married his wife Nancy Crane, of 56 years, in Lancaster, Oh.

He is survived by his wife, daughters Julie (Kurt) Augsburger and Sally (Dan) Brooks Krage, granddaughters Katie, Suzie and Hannah Augsburger and Gwen, Tess and Lydia Krage.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ferdinand and Lena Brooks, sister Miriam Manfull and brother Gilbert Brooks.

Celebration of life 1 p.m. Sept. 29 at Craver-Riggs Funeral Home in Milford.
