Work on Batavia’s long-anticipated street project is underway.

The project will include a redesign of East Main Street, and the rebuilding of South Second and North Fourth Streets.

The redesign of East Main will include wider sidewalks, a center turn lane, and stamped asphalt crosswalks.

Crews have been working the past week on the first part of the project, replacing the water main on East Main Street.

The project should be finished by June of 2014.

The project is expected to cost approximately $4.8 million.

To pay for the project the village will be taking out 2.5 million in bonds.

$989,000 will come from an Ohio Public Works Commission grant, and $1.35 million will come in the form of a OPWC loan.
