Since moving into her home on Shelley Drive in Batavia two years ago, Shelly Bressert has made many improvements.

In August, Bressert received the Village Association of Batavia Property Improvement Award for her hard work.

“I thought they had the wrong address,” Bressert said about receiving the award. “I was just kind of shocked.”

Members of the association selected Bressert to win the award because she made improvements to the exterior of her home that kept with the general style of the original structure and benefitted her property.

Bressert said she purchased the home two years ago and began making improvements.

She said she put in all new landscaping, put new blacktop on the driveway, replaced stonework on the home, had a light pole put up, and more.

“I did all of the exterior stuff,” Bressert said. “The bushes were way up to the windows, and apparently there were electrical wires in the grass.”

Bressert said although the improvements took hard work and funds to complete, it was worth it after all of the work was complete.

“It’s just a good feeling when you drive in and see what you’ve accomplished,” Bressert said.

Anyone can nominate a property owner to receive the award, and the nominations are reviewed by a committee of volunteers for final selections.
