The Board of County Commissioners proclaimed August as Child Support Awareness Month in Clermont County during their July 31 session.

Commissioner Ed Humphrey read a proclamation about the importance of child support in the county.

Humphrey said it is important to work toward ensuring that every child receives the support they need, and he said many families benefit from child support services in the county.

Humphrey presented the proclamation to Brenda Gilreath, executive director of child support enforcement in Clermont County.

Gilreath said that while the agency does enforce child support in the county, many individuals do pay their child support regularly and on time.

She said they are trying to become softer in their approach to spreading the message about child support, and want to recognize the fact that many individuals support their children in the county.

Gilreath said the theme that they will be embracing in the coming months and years in the state of Ohio is that support is key to success for children.

She said they work with many agencies and organizations in the county including the Clermont County Commissioners, the Clermont County Prosecutor’s Office, the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office, and more.

According to their website, the Clermont County Child Support Agency is responsible for the establishment, enforcement and collections of court orders for child support and medical insurance in the most cost effective manner that is compliant with statuses and regulations and warrants public confidence.

Gilreath said this month they will be having several events to spread the word about the importance of child support.

On Aug. 7 she said they are encouraging residents to wear green to work to spread the message about child support, and on Aug. 6 they will be hosting their annual employee recognition dinner.

“Thank you very much for the proclamation,” Gilreath said.
