A 6-year-old boy died in a golf cart accident July 3.

According to a release from Clermont County Sheriff A.J. “Tim” Rodenberg, the communications center received a call at approximately 4 p.m. July 3 that a child was injured in Stonelick Township.

Deputies and EMS personnel responded to 5068 State Route 222 and air care was also dispatched.

“Life saving efforts from emergency personnel, Stonelick Township and UC Air Care, were unsuccessful,” Sheriff Rodenberg said in a release. “The child was pronounced dead at the scene.”

According to preliminary investigation, it was determined that the boy was struck and trapped under the golf cart until an adult arrived and lifted it off him. The driver of the golf cart, a 7-year-old neighbor and friend of the boy, said the victim was racing him on foot.

“As they neared a sharp bend the 7-year-old driver turned the cart and struck the deceased, and the golf cart came to a stop on top of him,” Sheriff Rodenberg said. “The father and grandmother of the deceased, as well as the grandfather of the driver were home at the time, but did not observe the accident.”

Sheriff Rodenberg said the accident remains under investigation.
