Reuben Clay McCain, 80, died June 28.
McCain served in the United States Army from 1953-55. He worked for Western-Southern Life Insurance Company for 33 years before he retired in 1989. He also served as deacon, elder, Sunday school teacher, and choir member for th Plum Creek Christian Church in Grants Lick, Ky. He was also a softball coach and pitcher for the church team. He started the church’s benevolence team which provided the local community with food and clothing for the needy. He enjoyed devotional writing and poetry, as well as golfing, softball, bowling, euchre, and watching the Reds and UK teams play ball.
He was preceded in death by wife Betty McCain and sisters Mary Beth Baynum and Lois Hitch.
McCain is survived by children David (Paula) McCain, Daniel (Kristin) McCain, Karen (Kevin) Mack, Amy (Jeffrey) Schmidt and Rebecca (James) White, brother James Richard (Marilyn) McCain, 12 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation held 3-8 p.m. June 30 at the Plum Creek Christian Church in Butler, Kentucky. Funeral service held 11 a.m. July 1, also at the church, followed by burial at the Plum Creek Cemetery with full military honors.
