Residents in Milford who are looking for something to do this summer can drive down to Riverside Park to watch a movie underneath the stars July 27.

The city will hold its fourth annual Movies on the Miami event at the park.

“It’s a fun time,” Charles Evans, chair of the parks and recreation commission at the city, said. “It’s a good place to see your neighbors and hang out, and it’s just something unique to do.”

Evans said he got the idea for hosting a movie night at the park after he saw one while he was vacationing at Top Sail Island.

“They had a movie night in the park down there,” Evans said. “I saw that and thought it was a neat idea and wanted to bring it home and introduce it in Milford.”

Evans said the movie is projected on a huge blow up screen in the park, he said residents can bring down lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy watching a movie outside under the stars.

Evans also said there will be plenty to do before the movie begins.

“We will also have an inflatable bounce house prior to the movie and there is a playground at the park,” he said.

Susan Ellerhorst, assistant city manager for Milford, said that this is the fourth movie they have had at the park. She said they have also shown Cars, Mulan, and Up.

Ellerhorst said the event is free for residents. She said popcorn will be provided at the event, and residents can also purchase drinks from the parks and recreation commission.

She said the movie will begin at dusk.

“It’s a family-friendly event that we provide to residents from the parks and recreation commission,” Ellerhorst said. “We are excited to provide the event again to citizens. We’re hoping the children will enjoy the movie.”

Ellerhorst said they are looking to continue having a movie in the park each year, and hope to do more than one each year if they have funding.

She said they are looking for sponsors who may be interested in supporting a movie night. Applications are available at www.milfordohio.org.
