This June and July, area high school and middle school students will be gaining hands-on veterinary experience at All Creatures Animal Hospital.

Over the years, more than 100 students have participated in the Vet Camp program, and have been immersed in all departments at All Creatures Animal Hospital, trying to find out if veterinary medicine or working around animals is right for them.

Vet Camp students work with technicians and doctors in outpatient appointments, inpatient care, surgery, boarding, grooming, and doing animal rescue work at the animal shelter.

In addition to the observation and hands on participation, daily “lunch and learns” will teach our campers how to examine a horse, handle a python, sex a bearded dragon, with a variety of live presentations. A field trip to a farm for trimming hooves on goats is also in the plan.

All students will be expected to accomplish a set of outlined objectives, present on a veterinary project, and take an examination to graduate and receive a certificate.

The dates for 2013 Vet Camp are June 24-28, 8-5 p.m. and July 15-19, 8-5 p.m. Cost for the camp is $125 and it includes lunch every day.

The application can be found on the All Creatures website www.all-creatures.com or be calling the office at (513) 797-7387.
