On Thursday, May 23, 2013, Dr. John Gennantonio, Dr. Katie Stewart, Dr. Sarah Husted and the staff of Sea of Smiles, Pediatric Dentistry, donated a morning of free pediatric dental care.

For the second year in a row, the dentists opened up their hearts and their office and donated free exams, x-rays, cleanings, sealants, fluoride treatments, root canals, crowns, extractions and fillings to kids, who in some cases, have never seen a dentist.

Sea of Smiles reached out to local pediatricians, dentists, churches and charitable organizations such as Interparish Ministry, City Gospel Mission, and The Boys & Girls Club of Clermont County to promote this philanthropic effort. Dr. John, Dr. Katie and Dr. Sarah’s goals were to provide treatment and educate children and parents on the importance of preventative dental care.

The total services completed by Sea of Smiles equated to $12,860.

“I feel so fortunate to practice in our community. This is just our small way of saying thank you. All of the doctors and staff are so excited that we increased the dental care contribution by 40% from our last free dentistry day,” said Dr. John Gennantonio.

“Today was a wonderful opportunity to take care of children who may not usually have access to dental treatment. We get to meet the needs of precious little patients and hopefully encourage healthy dental habits for a lifetime,” Dr. Sarah said.

Sea of Smiles, Pediatric Dentistry is very active in the local community, donating money to various charities and often volunteering their time to organizations such as Cincinnati’s Roselawn Dental Clinic and the Cincinnati Dental Society.

Last February, during National Children’s Dental Health Month, Sea of Smiles educated over 2,300 local children by visiting pre-schools and elementary schools to teach healthy habits and proper brushing techniques.

Additionally, Sea of Smiles is hosting an event to benefit Autism Speaks, in August. Sea of Smiles often engages the community with free fun events at their office that focus on creating a positive experience for children at the dentist.

“We love being a positive resource for the parents and children in our community,” said Dr. Katie.

The doctors and staff consistently stress the importance of healthy diets and cavity prevention while making a trip to the dentist cool and fun.

I love hearing this. Our kids go to the Sea of Smiles and we have had nothing but great experiences there. It’s great to know that the dentists we love are willing to give back to community in such a generous way!
