George Gabbert Jr., 86, of New Richmond, died Feb. 22.
Gabbert was a World War II veteran. He graduated from Ohio University and was the former mayor of Chilo. He was a business owner, a teacher, a 32nd degree mason, a friend, a confidant and a hero to his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Delores Snyder Gabbert of 65 years, children Maryellen (Randy) Gray, Linda (Dennis) Shinkle and Barbara (Guy Montgomery) Donohoo, 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and hundreds of church family and friends.
The Veteran’s Home conducted a red, white and blue honor ceremony for Gabbert. His remains were transported to University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He suffered from Parkinson’s disease and hoped his body donation could help students learn more about the disease.
No memorial service is planned.
