4-H youth to host sewing workshop at the fairgrounds

Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) Teen Board members taught peers how to make mittens at their October 2012 event. Their next sewing workshop, Stitchin’ Dreams, will be held Jan. 19 at the Clermont County Fairgrounds 4-H Hall. Participants will learn how to sew pillowcases.
Participants will learn how to sew pillowcases at the event, which is sponsored by the Family & Consumer Sciences Teen Board and Ohio State University Extension – Clermont County.
The workshop fee is $5; each participant will receive fabric to make two pillowcases. The workshop will teach participants how to stitch and finish seams. One pillowcase will be made during the workshop, and the additional fabric can be taken home to complete a second pillowcase.
The pillowcase made at the event will be donated to One Million Pillowcases, an organization that provides cheerful pillowcases for charities such as Ronald McDonald House, Red Cross and United Way.
The event is open to ages 8 to 18. Sewing experience is not required.

In October, FCS Teen Board hosted Stitchin’ Mittens, a sewing workshop where participants sewed mittens from close-knit wool sweaters.
Participants were encouraged to “recycle” their old sweaters for the mittens’ sewing material.
