The second annual Rock and Roast fund-raiser to support the Williamsburg to Batavia Hike/Bike trail is scheduled for Jan. 19.
The event will be from 6-9 p.m. at the Clermont College Student Activity Center, and will feature dinner, music and a silent auction.
Mary Ann Lefker, mayor of the village of Williamsburg, said last year the event raised more than $6,000 for the trail project.
“We got great support last time and we’d never done it before,” Lefker said about the event.
Lefker said they are hoping to re-create the first event in a new, larger location and have more people attend to support the trail.
“We’re hoping to fill the hall,” Lefker said.
She said the money raised at the event will go directly toward the hike/bike trail project, which is in the works in Williamsburg and Batavia.
The trail is a collaboration between the Clermont County Park District, Batavia Township, the village of Batavia, Williamsburg Township, the village of Williamsburg, East Fork State Park, the Army Corps of Engineers, Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife, the Clermont County Engineer’s Office, Clermont County Commissioners, the Clermont County YMCA and University of Cincinnati Clermont College.
Already more than two miles of the trail have been completed as part of phase one in Williamsburg.
When complete, the 13-15 mile trail will connect the villages of Batavia and Williamsburg using many roads that were abandoned after the construction of William H. Harsha Lake.
“The first phase has been so well received,” Lefker said about the trail.
Lefker said looking at the bigger picture, she is excited not only about the completed 13-15 mile trail, but also about how the trail will provide access to different destinations in the community.
“The bigger picture is what we have to offer overall,” Lefker said. “East Fork State Park, or connection to the YMCA and the Clermont College. It’s all very fun.”
Lefker said they are getting closer to construction of phase two of the project, which should begin next year.
According to the park district, funding for the project is coming from grant money, local government and community support, and fund-raisers like the Rock and Roast event.
Lefker said they are still looking for silent auction items for the event as well as individuals or businesses who want to sponsor a table for $200.
Lefker said “Hey! Mr. D.J.,” will be providing music for the event and Ike’s Catering will provide the food.
She said anyone in the community who supports the trail is welcome to attend. Tickets are $20 per person.
