The Milford Lady Eagles had an amazing season on the links.
The team, which featured six All-Conference selections went a combined 17-1 on the season and a perfect 6-0 in the league, capped off by sending senior Taylor Ulery to the District Tournament at Weatherwax.
“It meant a lot because we did have high expectations of qualifying (as a team),” Milford coach Sandy Garrison said of having Ulery qualify. “The scores were very high that day, but when they called her name out, we were all excited and surprised. She worked so hard this year and with it being her senior year, I knew she was disappointed that we weren’t going as a team, but it’s just a boost for all of us.”
While Ulery was the lone member of the Lady Eagles’ team to make it to districts, she wasn’t named as the Player of the Year in the conference. Instead, her teammate, Aly Severns was given that honor.
With the All-Star team and Player of the Year selections dependent upon statistics, Severns edged out her teammate by 0.2 strokes. Severns average was a 42.5 while Ulery’s average was a 42.7.
Joining the pair on the First Team All-Eastern Cincinnati Conference team was sophomore Megan Creager.
Creager was only two spots behind Severns and Ulery in overall average in the league. Her average of 44.8 was the good enough for fourth in the league as well as giving the Lady Eagles a solid top of the lineup.
Three more teammates made up the Second Team All-Conference for Milford. Freshman Abby Swenson, Sophomore Cheslea Nagy and senior Maddie Witte were also honored.
Swenson boasted a 51.9 average, which was 10th in the ECC, while Witte’s 53.3 was good enough for 13th. Nagy’s 55.9 was 19th in the league.
While the Lady Eagles will be losing some solid scoring at the top of their lineup with Ulery and Witte, the Lady Eagles will hope to continue their streak of solid teams teeing it up next season with a solid group of returning players.
Milford has established a strong tradition of exceptional girls’ golf teams and Garrison fully expects that tradition to continue next year, aided by the inspiration of having Ulery reach the District Tournament.
“The team was inspired by her and she’s been a great role model. I think that Taylor has kept the bar high and she can be proud as she walks away,” Garrison said.
