A campaign office for President Barack Obama opened in Milford Aug. 14.

The grand opening featured several speakers and an opportunity to get more information, discuss issues and meet other supporters.

Speakers during the event included representatives from the Obama campaign and local Democrats who discussed the importance of the President’s re-election this year and the main issues of the campaign.

“We are here to elect President Obama, but also do a lot more than that,” Anna Gilbert, regional director for southwest Ohio, said about reaching out to the community.

Gilbert said the campaign office was one of five in Ohio to open Aug. 14, and many others have already opened across Ohio and the United States to begin reaching out to those in the community.

“We know neighbors who talk to neighbors is how you win,” Gilbert said. “We hope this office is home to the Democratic party and home to all of you.”

Gilbert introduced several other speakers during the evening, including Ron Kidd, a volunteer canvas captain, David Lane, chairman of the Clermont County Democratic Party, and Len Harding, Democratic candidate for Clermont County Commissioner.

“We need to work to re-elect our president who believes in middle class values,” Lane said.

Lane discussed some of the important issues and decisions of the presidential elections, the difference in the candidates and discussed the challenges they will face campaigning in Clermont County.

“We’ve got our work cut out for us,” he said.

Gilbert encouraged residents who attended the office opening to volunteer to help make phone calls and speak with members of the community about re-electing President Obama.

Sally Gasior, a volunteer who organizes teams in Mason, attended the office opening in Milford and has been leading the volunteer team in her area since May.

She said volunteers help canvas and meet one-on-one with members of the community to talk President Obama’s accomplishments and things he would like to work on in the future.

“This is an awesome way to get more people involved,” Gasior said about the campaign office.

Gasior said it helps to have one location where volunteers and members of the community can meet, have discussions and get organized.

“This gives us another location to work out of, build our team and focus our efforts in Ohio,” Gasior said about the Milford campaign office.

Gaisor said those who are interested in volunteering to be a part of the campaign team can help in a variety of ways. She said people can help canvas, participate in phone banking, help with data entry and more.

“The real heart and soul are volunteers,” Gaisor said.

Community members who are interested in volunteering for the campaign or want more information, can call (513) 212-8329 or visit the office, which is located at 5989 Meijer Dr., Suite 1 in Milford.
