Alexa Hawley of Clermont Northeastern High School has been honored as the May Student of the Month by the Batavia Rotary Club.

“I am always happy to brag about Alexa,” said Matt Early, CNE High School Principal. “She maintains a 3.75 GPA at school while taking Post-Secondary classes at UC Clermont and still has time to give back to her community.”

Earley described Hawley as “the breaking news” at CNE High School. She is currently editor in chief of the school newspaper, which recently placed third at a statewide competition. She is also a member of the UC Clermont newspaper staff.

In addition, she is a CNE National Honor Society member, participates in the Leo Club, is a two-year member of the yearbook staff, and has enjoyed running cross country for four years. Hawley is Senior Captain of the team this year.

Giving back is something that comes naturally to Hawley. She is an active member of her church youth group, conducts Puppy Therapy at the Batavia Nursing Home, and volunteers with children who have disabilities at KAMP Dovetail in Highland County each summer.

When she’s not working or volunteering, Hawley enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

The Batavia Rotary Club recognizes one high school student from CNE Schools each month throughout the regular school year.

Students are nominated for this award for their school work and service to their community in keeping with the Rotary motto, “Service Above Self.”

The Batavia Rotary Club is comprised of a diverse group of community-minded members that work together to address various community and international needs, promoting peace and understanding throughout the world. Club meetings are held every Tuesday at 7 a.m. at the Hawk Building on Taylor Road, Clermont County Airport.

Prospective new members and visiting Rotarians are always welcome.
