The Fort Ancient Valley Conference announced their All-Conference bowling team with Glen Este’s boys leading the way with all five of their starters being named to the First Team All-Conference. Also, Tony Kellerman, the boys’ coach was named Coach of the Year.
“Our boys team had a great season,” Glen Este program head coach Kathy Demarko said. “They are a very talented group and their record (16-1) shows that.”
Kellerman, who along with Demarko and Kevin Briggs and Tom Franz, help to run the program. Kellerman was awarded as Coach of the Year, but it was the entire group who will share the honor.
“The four of us kept the team going and if it weren’t for all of us, the team wouldn’t be where they are,” Demarko said. “Sometimes it takes a village to raise a group and that’s what the four of us had to do.
“We don’t pay our coaches. I do it because I love it and my coaches do it because they love it.”
Glen Este won the FAVC-East, going 15-1 in the conference and 18-1 overall.
The team, made up of three seniors, one junior and one sophomore were all named to the First Team.
The Trojans were led by sophomore Blake Huber. Huber averaged a 198.6, good enough for 10th in the FAVC. Huber rolled a high game of 268 and had a series high of 477.
Next best were seniors Jared Brewer and Tyler Dieringer who averaged games of 195.8 and 195.3, respectively. Brewer had a high game of 248 while Dieringer rolled a 256. Brewer’s high series was a 451 and Dieringer’s was a 467.
Austin Doppes and Tyler Clark were the fourth and fifth best bowlers on the Trojans rosters with averages of 192.1 and 190.5. Doppes, a senior, rolled a high game of 257 and had a high series of 461.
Clark, a junior, rolled a high game of 258 and had a high series of 468.
Despite the solid regular season, the Trojans were unable to advance past the sectional tournament.
“They were 18-1 and won the conference for the last three years now,” Demarko said. “With last year’s success, a lot of people thought that this group could have a down year. They were an eclectic group and we threw them together and they did well. I was really proud of them for winning the FAVC.”
Milford also had some bowlers honored as All-Conference selections. The Eagles had three Second Teamers and one Honorable Mention.
On the Second Team All-FAVC were Kyle Chance, Jordan Marshall and Zach Wilson. Alex Vandergrift was named an Honorable Mention.
Chance led the way for the Eagles with a 182.7 average, a 233 high game and a 445 high series. Wilson had a 179.3 average, a 246 high game and a 426 high series. Marshall had a 176 average, 254 high game and 415 high series. Vandergrift had a 175 average, a 233 high game and a 429 high series.
“With being a young team with only one senior, I think we did about as expected,” Milford coach Frank Ritzmann said. “We bowled well in the Baker games at sectionals, but came up a little short of what we usually averaged in the single games. I expect a lot of good things next year.”
The Eagles went 9-7 in the FAVC and 10-10 overall.
