The village of Batavia Police Department was dispatched to the area of 660 College Drive in Batavia around 6:44 p.m. Oct. 7 after receiving a call from a woman who said her husband went hunting in the area and had not returned home.

The 56-year-old man went hunting at about 7 a.m. that morning and his family contacted the police after they were unable to make contact with him.

Batavia police officers, along with deputies and canine units from the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office searched the area from 7:30 p.m. until 3 a.m. and were unable to locate the man.

The following day, officers from the police department as well as volunteers, family members, and friends of the man and members of Central Joint Fire and EMS resumed the search at 7:30 a.m.

At approximately 8:55 a.m. the man was found dead in the wooded area between College Drive and Meadowbrook Drive.

Police Chief Mike Gardner said it appears the subject fell out of a hunting tree stand and the accident does not seem suspicious.

The body was taken to the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office for autopsy and the accident is still under investigation. Police Chief Gardner said the man’s name is not being released at this time.
