The village of New Richmond will host a Sept. 11 memorial concert this weekend that will feature performances by the New Richmond High School Troubadours and John Hale.

“We all know it’s the 10th anniversary, and we can’t forget what happened on that terrible Tuesday,” Ralph Shepherd, concert organizer, said about the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The concert will begin at 6 p.m. and will be held at the New Richmond bandstand on Front Street.

“We will honor the EMT, the fire department, the life squad, the police department and the veterans that day,” Shepherd said.

Shepherd said around 90 members of the New Richmond Troubadours will be performing at the event.

The high school choir is known for its outstanding performances that earned New Richmond gold at the 2011 Heritage Music Festival in Annapolis, Md. The choir has also performed at the Fort McHenry National Monument as well as the U.S. Naval Academy Chapel.

“They are a very talented group,” Shepherd said about the Troubadours.

John Hale, an a cappella singer, will also be performing at the event, and is known for singing a variety of patriotic songs.

Shepherd said this is not the first time the village has put together a memorial concert on Sept. 11. In fact, he said, they have done something every year since the attacks, and even held a service the evening that the attacks happened.

“We just can’t forget,” Shepherd said about Sept. 11. “And the young people, we’ve got to keep them moving on with this, it is very important.”
