Steve Mattes soloed in a single-engine aircraft on Jan. 3. This was Steve’s first flight as a student pilot without his instructor in the aircraft.

Mattes is enrolled in the Aviation Technology: Professional Pilot Program at the University of Cincinnati. The laboratory portion of the Professional Pilot Program is taught at the Clermont County Airport.

He is the son of Carl and Nancy Mattes of Milford.

When Mattes completes the two-year program through the University of Cincinnati, he will have earned an Associate of Applied Science degree and a Commercial pilot certificate.
