In the most recent varsity girls basketball play in Clermont County, the stars of New Richmond, Clermont Northeastern, and Glen Este have shined the brightest in the cold winter sky.

New Richmond

The Lions got a hard-earned victory over visiting Goshen 51-46. In this Southern Buckeye Conference American Division battle, the teams were tied after the first eight minutes 11-both, the home girls led 25-22 at the half and their guests grabbed a 36-34 advantage going into the final stanza. Both teams featured some balanced scoring. For the victors, senior center-forward Reno Frayne netted 13 points, senior guard-forward Lindsey Blankenship 12, and freshman center Josie Buckingham 10. For the vanquished, junior guard Kelsi Steele sank 15 points and junior guard Allie Jeandrevin 10.

The Red and Black traveled to Norwood and defeated the Indians 50-37 to show who will be the newest member of the Southern Buckeye American how tough the competition from Clermont County can be. The Red and Black was ahead all the way 14-6, 27-19, and 39-31. Blankenship threw in 13 points to pace the NR offensive output.

Clermont Northeastern

The Rockets stunned Bethel-Tate with their easy 60-39 victory in Owensville. The Blue and Gold led 10-6 after one period, but trailed 22-19 at halftime before retaking the led 38-33 going into the closing quarter. Both teams showed some balanced scoring. For the triumphant, senior guard Shelby Moore made 13 points, senior guard Cydney Hill 12, and senior guard Alexis Schmidt 11. For the Red and Gray, junior guard Carolin Baker netted 18 points and senior guard Tess Jenike added 10 in this Southern Buckeye Conference American duel.

Glen Este

The Trojans won a game between then unbeatens in the East Division of the Fort Ancient Valley Conference conquering fellow Clermont countians from Milford 33-23 on the E-Gals’ court. The Red and White was in the forefront 11-8 and 14-13 before the Trojans took a 24-20 advantage after three periods of play. Sophomore guard Hannah Carson’s 15 points paced the GE offense and Morgan Wolcott, junior guard-forward, topped the Red and White with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Turpin toppled to the Trojans 59-51 in another East Division game of the Fort Ancient Valley. Double figure scoring for the Clermont countians was provided by Lakin Louiso, senior guard, with 24 points (including four three-pointers), sophomore forward Katie Gaskill who made 13 and Carson who made 13 including three three-pointers.

Wilmington’s Hurricanes blew away Glen Este 53-40 in the Fort Ancient Valley Conference East.

Williamsburg

The Wildcats demolished Deer Park’s version of Wildcats 65-41 on the winners’ hardwood in a non-conference confrontation. Junior forward Tara Dennis sank a career-high 25 points. Junior guard Heidi McManus sank another 11 points for the winners who were on top at every stop 15-9, 28-19, and 45-28.

Felicity was clobbered on the losers’ floor 61-28 in the National Division of the Southern Buckeye. Following a 13-both first period, the Wildcats steadily pulled away at the other intermissions 25-21 and 40-24. Dennis tossed in 16 points and McManus 14 for the victors and Alex Stevenson, senior forward, made nine for the vanquished.

Blanchester returned to Clinton County with a 45-37 win in another war between Wildcats. Blan was in the lead at each break 8-2, 19-12, and 32-35. McManus made 12 points and Dennis 10 for ‘Burg.

At Paint Valley, the Blue and White was defeated 40-35 in a non-conference clash. Dennis’ 10 point production paced the Clermont countians’ offensive output.

Felicity

The Cardinals continue to conquer adding Batavia to their list of victims 51-38 in the Southern Buckeye National. The visitors were in command throughout 10-6, 24-13, and 32-24. Stevenson made five three-pointers to help her earn game scoring leadership by tallying 18 points for the Cards. Teammate Arica Stutz, sophomore forward-center, contributed 13 points. Senior guard Sarah Gibson’s 11-point effort powered the Bulldogs’ offense.

Milford

The E-Gals ended a losing streak by eking out a 61-56 overtime victory over visiting Amelia in an inner-county, non-league showdown. The Red and White was ahead 17-12 after one quarter, down 27-25 and 42-39 after the second and third stanzas and the score was knotted at 52-both at the conclusion of regulation action. Sophomore forward Rachael Sullivan made 16 points and junior guard Kelly Yee 14 for the triumphant and the Barons’ Kymmy Simon, a junior guard, earned game scoring honors by scorching the nets for 25 points.

Turpin took Milford 43-38 in the East Division of the Fort Ancient Valley. The Spartans led their guests after each stop 11-5, 22-16, and 34-24. Morgan Wolcott, junior guard-forward, was the scoring leader for the Red and White making 10 points and she and teammate Sullivan both yanked down seven rebounds and Yee stole the ball three times.

Wilmington wasted little time in walloping the Red and White 53-32 owning quarter leads of 9-8, 25-20, and 40-26. Wolcott was again the E-Gals’ scoring leader with 10 points and also made five steals in this Fort Ancient Valley East contest.

Anderson, too, took the measure of Milford 35-36 in the Fort Ancient Valley East. Yee’s nine points paced the Red and White that was in arrears 10-7, 19-14, and 27-16 after each quarter.

Amelia

The Barons lost an offensive showcase to Western Brown’s Broncos 77-63. The Blue and White was in the forefront 19-15 and 34-31 after the first two stanzas, but the Brown and Gold took over 56-52 after three periods of play in this American Division dual of the Southern Buckeye. Senior guard Brianna Beasley’s 21 points (including four three-pointers) and Simon’s 20 points powered the Clermont countians’ offensive performance.

Batavia

The Bulldogs’s offense was frozen by Fayetteville’s Rockets 87-25 in a non-conference blow out at Batavia. Sophomore guard McKenna Fraley tossed in seven points to led the home girls scoring.
