Bethel man charged in fatal crash

A Bethel man is being held on a $200,000 bond in connection with a fatal crash on state Route 749 Sunday, Sept. 12.

Stephen J. Clark, 43, was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and driving under the influence of alcohol. He pleaded not guilty to the DUI charge Monday, Sept. 13.

Thomas P. O’Rouke, 55, of Cincinnati was westbound on S.R. 749 on a 2009 Honda Shadow motorcycle about a mile east of U.S. 52 when he came upon Clark at about 1:05 p.m. According to the State Highway Patrol, Clark was eastbound on S.R. 749 in a 2000 Lincoln Continental when he traveled left of center and struck O’Rouke.

O'Rouke was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was declared dead at the scene.

Clark was treated and released at the scene. The State Highway Patrol stated that Clark blew a .22 percent Blood Alcohol Content on a breathalyzer and was taken into custody.

The crash remains under investigation.
