Erika Maloney, Glen Este High School senior, has recently signed a letter-of-intent to attend the University of the Cumberlands.

Her plans are to major in Spanish education (become a Spanish teacher) and to play soccer at the Williamsburg, Ky., college.

She chose this institution of high learning because “I fell in love with the campus and the staff.”

Maloney's high school athletic career included four years of soccer (earning three varsity letters) and bowling. She has earned the award of most valuable player in soccer.

Foremost in her recollections of highlights of her prep sports career are "visiting college camps and getting to know everyone. . . the senior night game in soccer we played Winston Woods and it kicked in during the game and really effected me that it was my last season and the last game at home and the last time I'd get to play soccer with all of the girls."

The positive influences in her life, Maloney said were "God who gave me the strength and motivation and the talent that I have. . . my parents (Grego and Tracy Maloney) were always there for me."
