The Amelia Village Council voted Monday, Aug. 2 to place a police levy on the November ballot. The 10 mill levy would replace the current 7 mill and 3 mill levies.

The 10 mill levy would be based on current property values and, according to information released by the village of Amelia, it would raise taxes on a home valued at $100,000 by about $64.67 per year.

Amelia Police Chief Jeff Sucher said that while the of the 3 mill levy passed in May, the additional funds would not be sufficient to meet the needs of the department. May voters rejected a renewal of the 7 mill levy last passed in 1999 by a margin of five votes.
