Andrew Applegate, an Amelia High School senior, recently signed a college letter-of-intent to further his education and athletic career at the College of Mount Saint Joseph.

He will major in psychology and will compete as a member of the football squad.

At the barony, Applegate earned two varsity letters during his standout football career as a defensive lineman and he also lettered in baseball. He was member of the basketball team two years. He earned Amelia’s prestigious Baron Award and was a Fort Ancient Valley Conference Cardinal Divison academic all-star on the gridiron and the diamond.

His senior night football game against Little Miami’s Panthers is foremost in the recollections of his prep athletic career.

“Little Miami was my last high school football game with my friends on the field at Amelia High School. That was very important to me.”

Applegate credited a number of people for helping make his athletic career a success.

“My parents (Tom and Terri Applegate) have supported me in everything. Especially over the last four years they have been tremendous support. They have always been there for me. . . my friends made high school very enjoyable for me. We all helped each other. . . my baseball coach (Brad Koewler) put in a lot of tiime with me and the rest of the team. He really cares about all of his players.”
